A skeuomorph (also spelled skiamorph, /ˈskjuːəˌmɔːrf, ˈskjuːoʊ-/)[1][2] is a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues (attributes) from structures that were necessary in the original.[3] Examples include pottery embellished with imitation rivets reminiscent of similar pots made of metal[4] and a software calendar that imitates the appearance of binding on a paper desk calendar.[5]
 Came across the interesting term of "social skeumorphia" on a podcast with Priya Parker in the context of "gatherings" - the traditional , conventional vs the specific , unique & unconventional . How we might lose sight of true intent and humanity (at a gathering) whilst confusing it with hostessing and with purely external trims & forms. Doing things as they have always been done , even though that specific reason is now lost in obsolescence.
